Since the announcement of the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a global pandemic, we have seen several responses of companies, both positive and eyebrow-raising, in how they handled the safety and security of their employees. We even started a crowdsourcing list for people to nominate companies that activated their telecommuting response to the government’s announcement of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Luzon since March 17, 2020.

How companies respond to that very question is going to define their brand for decades. If you rushed in and somebody got sick, you were that company. If you didn’t take care of your employees or stakeholders and put them first, you were that company

This is an unprecedented time for all of us and this will ultimately test the resiliency of companies to keep their businesses afloat without sacrificing its people’s welfare. With the growing influence of social media, companies need to be very careful to ensure that their people’s wellbeing and safety are put on the top priority – and are communicated effectively. Else, they might have to suffer the unforgiving reviews and rants of their employees on their personal social media accounts that will ultimately affect their reputation as an employer and hurt their talent acquisition initiatives.

Will your company’s brand be remembered positively or negatively for how you addressed the COVID-19 crisis? Will you be the employer of choice of today’s “woke” job seekers?
